Up below Dead Mountain
Past where the cedars grow
That’s where we found their tent
Now half collapsed and covered in snow
Inside, nothing but the traces
Of the people we came to seek
Cold drinks, empty boots and the feeling
Of voices left in the wind to speak
And when the wind does blow
And we lose our minds
How will anyone know
How will we find our way back home
Living in the world is such
A lonely task
We stick close to our chosen ones
Hold them close to the very last
Who they loved is not the question
What they feared we cannot ask
All we know is that they ran
To find a place for the storm to pass
Though the snow keeps falling
We just can’t stay inside
We have lost ourselves
and we know that we can’t survive
Ten souls went out
One soul came back
There’s a hole that they'll never fill
And no answer in searching the past
The happy photographs
Tell an unhappy tale
Beneath their smiling faces
The bittersweet prevails
Where’s the path we tread?
As we stumble and fall
Why are we filled with dread?
We will sleep in the blood and snow
You live your life towards the thing that you wanted
Protect yourself with what you have to hand
Do the best with what you've got in the moment
You’ll never know when you’re at the end
